Join The Room Debate!

6 Jan

The Room Debate is a new series here at Decorator’s Notebook – a bit of Friday fun in the name of constructive criticism!

It’s easy to take part. Just have a look at the room photo below and leave a comment with your answers to these two questions:

One thing I like most about this room is…

One thing I like least about this room is…

I’ve started things off in the comments section and can’t wait to hear what you think!

    tsk!!! I missed this room…

like most = yep I’ve got to agree with most others on the wall art

like least = those ghastly 1970s pillowcases!

I’m having to agree with My Friend on this one, it’s all a bit yuck and too cluttered for my liking, picture wall is best feature although i’ve seen nicer…..oooooer handbags!

    This is fun!
Like the most? The aubergine glass vases on the cupboard and arrangement of pictures (although maybe too many of them?). pristine feel..

Like the least? Not enough “space” around objects. e.g black lamps look interesting but run into the black picture behind…

Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who’s joined in so far… this is so much fun!!!

Here is my take on the room…

The Gallery wall is great…except the dresser and acccessories are distracting. I would remove the dresser from the wall and keep the focus on the gallery of photos.

The colorblock pillows have to go…if you remove them the rest of the room works.

Of course the white chair is lost on the white wall…the scale of the lamps are all wrong…

The hide would make a great wall hanging over the bed…I know you said one good thing, one bad thing, but once you get started re-working a room it is all consuming.

I love this idea…can’t wait for the next one.

Woooooh there, steady on My Friend!

Ps – some people like Next, you great snob ;-)

Only one thing I hate? The hide rugs give me the creeps – couldn’t even walk on one if I had to. The 70s cushions. The tiled floor. The weird shiny oblong on the wall. The standing light and the wall mirror that both look like they’re from Next…. Like everyone else though I like the picture wall. Great idea for a feature. Love, A Hater x

One thing I like most about this room is… The furniture and the pink blanket.
One thing I like least about this room is… The clutter I am not a big fan of the gallery wall nor the mirror. The room feels so clutter-y.

Oh this is a fun idea!

    I’ll start with what I don’t like, but I can’t choose:
The mirror thing over the bed, not very nice at all. OR The orange/red pillows (on the bed and Eames char AND painting) with Purple. (?) Not a great combination.

What I like the most – well the wall is of course a winner. Great mix of colours on the frames!

Ooh, one thing? That’s a tough one… I’ve always wanted to try that way of displaying pictures on a wall so I have to say I like that, but to be honest it’s those cushions on the bed that are grabbing my eye – they’re FAB!

Like least? The mirror is a bit too angular for me and I prefer the feel of carpet or wooden floorboards beneath my feet in the bedroom, not a stone floor.

best bit – the gallery wall.
worst bit(s) – really not a fan of the mirror above the bed, the oversized cushions on the bed and the matchy-matchy painting propped up on the floor. just a bit too busy in a bad way.

  12. Decorator's Notebook January 6, 2012 at 13:49 #

Wow, we’re all loving a bit of a gallery wall!

I also like the gallery-style collection of framed prints on the wall, it looks great.

The least bit I like is more general than specific items. The room is a bit over-complicated for my liking. There’s so much going on in there with the ‘busy’ mirror on the wall and those cushions that you don’t know where to look. I would want to pare things down a bit.

I most like the gallery wall. Love the use of different frames and sizes. I least like the tiled floor (I’m with you Bethan – chilly toes!), and I don’t like the mirror – too busy with the picture gallery.

  15. Charlotte Duckworth January 6, 2012 at 11:35 #

The thing I like most is the hide rug…even though ethically they make me a bit uncomfortable, it’s a stunner!

The thing I like least are the cushions on the bed. Not a fan of the colourways. Oh and also, the ones which are smothering the lovely Eames armchair in the corner!

  16. Hannah - Ebury Home & Garden January 6, 2012 at 09:54 #

I really love the gallery-style collection of prints on the wall. Am I also allowed to say that I really like the style of the ceiling beams?!

I like least the geometric mirror above the bed! Just not my style and I don’t think it really ‘goes’…

  17. Decorator's Notebook January 6, 2012 at 09:53 #

The thing I like MOST is: the picture wall casually spilling over onto the floor

The thing I like LEAST is: the tiled floor… I hate chilly toes!

    How about you?
