I like the feminine feel of this room – it’s a beautiful space with those huge windows and high ceilings. The lilac couch looks like it’s covered in some kind of sateen fabric and with all those shiny cushions you’d probably struggle to not slip off the damn thing. Love the magnolia but i agree with Decorators Notebook – the gerbs+twigs = cheap.

Ha ha, I think you’re right… that’s definitely a sofa for perching on in a ladylike fashion, not slouching around in your PJs!

It looks like the couches are going to have a fight. I think the red one will win.

    Favourite: Gorgeous window with shutters

    Worst: Lilac couch.

I love how this room has evoked so many different responses… a real Marmite scheme it seems!!! Thanks to all who’ve joined in so far :-)

like most = the whole ecletic mix of colours

like least = the fire grate….it’s too small for the space

Ok this room confuses me… I just don’t get it… The colour scheme? red, hot pink, lilac, light pink, antique fabrics (carpet and wall hanging)…

My least favourite thing is that kitsch glass/gold table with leaves… horrible! :)

My favourite part: the high ceiling and the big windows. Furniture wise the white side tables against the wall and the white cupboard (piece of furniture on the right side of the picture) looks lovely. I also love the big gold mirror and the cushions on the lilac sofa (just not together…)

Overall a room with lots of potential; the light, the fireplace and walls, floors. I like the red chair the most, it has spindly legs but its color helps to give the room balance and the red edge on the rug (just enough and not too much) adds to this effect. Between them they serve to anchor a room with very high ceiling and high mirror that all threatens to float off upward. And, opposite (literally) to that, the lavender chaise is the feature I like least. In itself it’s pleasant but here it just looks too wispy. Perhaps different cushions would help tie it in with the other chair and rug. I just found your blog through Taking Notes, I really like this room debate idea.

Love the love seats, gold mirror and fireplace, but your eye doesn’t know where the focal point is because there is a lot going on.

Although the love seats are beautiful and feminine, the colors are in different values (pale vs. deep), so it’s unsettling to the eye. Either go with a dark red + dark purple or pastel purple + softer red/pink for more cohesion.

Also, I think your eye stays on the red border on the rug too much–you want something eye-catching to lift your eye upward instead. Just my thoughts!

    Great chair…Love it!

    Too many knick knacks…Lose It!

wellllllll….. I actually like this room quite a lot. It could do with the pastel sweetness being turned down a notch, the cushions look rather cheap, as does that green vase, the Union Jack cushion: bin it. I’d have painted the wall grey… but apart from that I like it. And that window – want one.

Wowser – this is a really interesting room as there are so many things I love and loathe about it! But if I must pick out two specifics…

I LURRRRVVVE the cute vase tucked away in the left hand corner. It reminds me of a Silvac vase my Nana handed down to me and that vibrant green colour is just stunning (I’m not sure what I’d call it, but Little Greene’s Green Verditer eggshell comes close). Oh and the painted floorboards are just my cup of tea, but that’s two things – I’m spoiling the game! Sorry!

I’m not so keen on the lilac sofa (or lilac full stop, for that matter). I think I’d probably need to visit a chiropractor if I sat in it for too long. And don’t even get me started on the bobble edging of those cushions!

The thing I like MOST about this room is the embroidered silk wall hanging you can see reflected in the mirror above the fireplace. It reminds me of an old piano shawl that belonged to my Great Grandmother in my Mum’s house.

The thing I like LEAST is the vase of flowers to the left of the fireplace – those red gerbera and twigs look really cheap and high-street-ish in a room that’s so sophisticated and classy overall.

    How about you?

I love the window and the mirror, I don’t like the lilac sofa.
